In 2020, a unique journey began at VMG Yachtbuilders with the creation of a truly exceptional yacht, originally known as the “Waddenboot.”
The vessel, now named IJver since her christening, laid the foundation for the entire IJver Class fleet. As enthusiasm grew among all involved during the construction process, VMG Yachtbuilders and Olivier van Meer made the decision to establish a dedicated fleet under this name.
Throughout the entire process, passion and dedication transformed a vision into a remarkable yacht: The IJver. This yacht is more than just a vessel; it carries childhood memories of sailing through the Dutch, German, and Danish Wadden Sea and coastal waters, woven into its very design. The result is a yacht with the sturdy appearance of a workboat, echoing the lines of a fishing cutter, yet combined with the luxury and comfort of a motor yacht.
IJver has a steep bow that gives her presence, yet she doesn’t resemble a purebred cutter, nor does she mirror the polished look of a high-end motor yacht. She is a unique blend of both worlds. Her lines are refined but not overly rounded, giving her a distinctive identity of her own.
The interior was designed with both comfort and practicality in mind. The main saloon features removable composite hatches, allowing the space to open up and serve as a generous living area. The owner’s cabin is private and serene, offering a quiet retreat. There is also a dedicated bunk space for children, complete with portholes offering views over the water evoking the spirit of adventure at sea. The fully insulated wheelhouse is ideal for summer cruising, with a retractable roof that invites fresh air and sunlight. For added comfort, the owner’s cabin includes a separate shower and toilet area, as well as air conditioning to ensure a pleasant stay under all conditions. The interior is crafted from high-quality oak, combining both solid wood and veneer, giving the space a warm, timeless character. The combination of natural materials and thoughtful detailing creates an inviting and refined atmosphere throughout the yacht.
The sensation of being outside can be fully embraced by removing the roof hatches. Ten removable composite hatches in the saloon provide light, ventilation, and access, while three more above the helm add to the open feel. Six integrated portholes in the hull can be opened to further improve natural airflow and enhance comfort on board.
Built to the highest standards of Dutch craftsmanship, the IJver has a hull made of 8 mm aluminum plating, with precisely CNC-cut frames spaced every 400 mm for optimal structural integrity. The deck and superstructure are constructed from 6 mm aluminum, and the structural bulkheads share the same thickness for enhanced rigidity. A solid 50 mm keel beam runs from the skeg to the bow, forming the spine of the yacht. Reinforcements of 10 mm plating support the mast and anchor winch, while a fully insulated stainless steel anchor chain pipe is integrated into the hull for durability and sound reduction. The rudder stock is crafted from solid 60 mm aluminum, and a robust 60 x 30 mm half-round rubbing strake runs the full length of the hull to provide additional protection.
IJver is equipped with Seakeeper 9 Zero Speed stabilizers that deliver exceptional stability even when the yacht is stationary. These advanced systems significantly reduce rolling motion, enhancing onboard comfort whether cruising or anchored. The Seakeeper ensures a smooth, stable experience, allowing passengers to relax and enjoy their time on board.
The mast is traditionally built from laminated Oregon pine by SRF and freshly painted in 2024. It features an electric lowering system, allowing the yacht to pass under bridges with a minimum clearance height of just 3.09 meters, while the full mast height reaches 11.5 meters. This makes the vessel highly versatile for inland and coastal cruising.
The yacht is powered by a high-quality propulsion system, featuring an oil-lubricated propeller shaft from Blokland and a 25” five-blade bronze propeller with a rope cutter. A robust Blokland keel cooler and closed-loop cooling systems contribute to the vessel’s reliability and low maintenance profile.
Sustainability and smart engineering go hand in hand. Two solar panels charge the alarm and monitoring systems, while the onboard systems are managed by a JSM Medemblik PLC control system, offering full operational oversight and safety. The yacht features Neptune Excellent mattresses with slatted bases, atmospheric strip and spot lighting in 24V (fully dimmable), a galley finished with a Corian countertop, and floors constructed on aluminum frames with mahogany finishes.
This vessel also includes practical comforts such as an electrically operated transom door and swim ladder, fore and aft deck wash pumps, and extensive ventilation options including Lewmar hatches, multiple portholes, and composite hatches throughout.
Whether you’re setting out on long European voyages with your family or enjoying a weekend getaway with friends, IJver offers everything needed for unforgettable journeys.
